What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical Peels use acids to gently exfoliate the surface layers of dead skin cells, diminishing the appearance of age spots, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne, and rough skin. Our chemical peel options vary from deep peel to superficial peels and can be customized to address unique skin types.
How do Chemical Peels Work?
Chemical Peels accelerate exfoliation of the outer layer of skin cells. A chemical solution is applied to the surface of the skin, removing the old skin and scaly patches. Depending on the strength of the peel, it will penetrate to the middle layer of the dermis (skin). Results of exfoliation or “chemical peeling” of the treated cells will occur seven to 14 days following treatment.
What Areas can be Treated with a Chemical Peel?
Chemical Peels can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, and back.
What do Chemical Peel Treatments Feel Like?
What a Chemical Peel feels like will vary depending on its strength. Our Lexington Chemical Peel patients can expect a feeling of heat, or a prickly, burning sensation when the peel is activated on the skin. Peel solutions typically don’t stay on the skin for very long, so any discomfort is usually short lived, and tolerable.
Chemical Peel Options
The SkinMedica Illuminize Peel is a superficial peel designed to brighten the skin and restore a beautiful glow. This peel is made from a chemical solution of advanced alpha-hydroxy acids and phytic acid that resurface the treated skin with minimal irritation. Patients should have minimal to no possible complications and can almost immediately see smoother, brighter skin. Since the Illuminize peel is a light chemical peel, is the best choice for patients with sensitive skin or those who need quick rejuvenation before a big event.
The Vitalize peel is a medium chemical peel that targets sun exposure, moderate lines, dark patches hyperpigmentation, and acne. Medium peels will cause mild to moderate peeling that lasts for a few days as your new skin heals. 3-6 treatments are recommended for the desired results and the appearance of the treatment area will dramatically improve after every chemical peel.
The Rejuvenize peel is a deep chemical peel SkinMedica. The deep chemical peel resurfaces the outer layer and middle layer of skin to target deep facial lines, deep scars, and sun damage. Significant improvements can be seen after one treatment. Peeling can take about one week and patients can expect smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin.
Chemical Peels Safety & Recovery
Our highly effective Chemical Peels are very safe and only available to physician-supervised Medical Spas, such as ours.
Recovery from a Chemical Peel varies depending on the peels depth. Some peels will make the skin feel tight and over the course of several weeks, the superficial skin layers will peel and flake away, whilst a light peel may not have any visible peeling or downtime. At the time of your consultation, we will discuss with you what recovery to expect depending on the specific peel.
